Oak Apple Cafe

OPEN FRIDAYS  1:30 – 3:30

The Oak Apple Café opened on October 19th 2018 and it been operating every Friday since then, barring a few dates around Christmas and the new year. Co-existing in the hall with the post office has proved very successful, and we feel that the original remit – to provide a meeting place for the good people of Membury has been achieved. Each week there are cakes, biscuits, soups and savouries. We now also offer ice cream and maybe we’ll even serve up the odd glass of cold beer if the sun is out.

We’ve had a visit from our MP Neil Parish and our PCSO Chris Bolsover, and the travelling library now calls monthly at the car park, rather than by the chestnut tree where it used to be. We’ll shortly be welcoming Paul Hayward, our new district councillor.

The Café is operating as a non-profit group – excess funds either go to pay for staff training or equipment and anything left at the end of the year will be distributed to local charities. Occasionally we support a specific project or appeal such as Children in Need or Red Nose Day. Coming up soon is a week where profits will go towards the church tower fund, and after that we’ll be helping Sam Dare reach her target for the Pretty Mudder Race.

The Café has been registered with East Devon Council, and the organisers have completed (or are completing) the required level 2 food safety and hygiene for catering course.
